History and status of Algatocín
This beautiful white town is located in the Valley of Genal, for its part half, to an altitude of 724m above sea level. Approximately its population consists of about 1011 inhabitants.

Little is known of their origins but it is known that was occupied by the Romans, shows include the remains found in Cerrogordo, near the village. The current name of this village has several legends attached to his home one of them spoke that comes from the Berber tribe called Al Atusiyin, Diego Vazquez Otero in his book Peoples Malaga, says that in his early Algatocín was located at the side of the river Guadiaro , Was later moved to the small plateau at which he is, there lived Algotisa the princess, daughter of a Moorish king of Ronda, and his name is possibly derived from that of the princess. What to see in Algatocín

Crafts Algatocín

Ferias y Fiestas de Algatocín

The holiday schedule the Algatocín begins Feb. 2 with a feast of Candlemas Ntra where the release of doves and the development of the typical hornazo. It is followed by Carnival and the festival of San Isidro Labrador Salitre in the month of May.

The village streets are decorated with flowers and altars to celebrate Corpus Christi in June, ending with the festival of San Juan.

The big celebration of the people is held in early October in honor of St. Francis of Assisi and Ntra del Rosario.

Before the end of the year we can attend to the calls of Aguinaldo Masses or Mañanitas.
