Historia y situación

El Burgo is one of the most ideal places to enjoy nature. Nestled within the natural reserve of the Sierra de las Nieves natural landscape is an incomparable beauty.

El Burgo is one of the northern gates of the Serrania de Ronda. Next to

River which gets its name and that below is called Turon. This river is one

of the most beautiful environments in the area, with its clear waters and flow, where you can see families of otters. The landscape of the area is composed mainly of Spanish and oaks, in the mountain pine moans and living in these places we are songbirds, wild cats, foxes, mountain goats, eagles, buzzards, kestrels and storks. Already close to the core rural fields of olive trees and cereals.

The strategic location of El Burgo, located on a vantage point 500 meters high has favored the settlement of people since ancient times, we do not know well who would be the first. Some argue that the name of the people of Greek origin has Pargus, purging, which means tower, others believe that it is of Celtic origin by the word Germanic Baurgs, and others that its origin is Arabic and that comes from the word Borch (tower). Anyway in El Burgo have found remains of civilizations from the Celts to the Arabs.

It is also known that during the Roman Empire was forced to step in the legions of his trip to Malaga Acinipo example is the rest of Roman road discovered in the port of Stoned.

Later during the eleventh century fortress of El Burgo became a defensive stronghold during the rebellion of Omar Ben Hafsun against troops of the Caliphate of Cordoba. In 1485 passed into the hands of the Catholic Monarchs after the reconquest.

As a story saying that in times of Philip II of El Burgo citizens were exempted from paying taxes on their land, honor awarded by the bravery of the same.

Qué ver.

Inside the village, in its upper part, we can contemplate what was the site of the fort and the few remaining remnants of its walls, there also stands the Church of the Incarnation built in 1505 and subsequently amended several times. This Mudejar style church is composed of three vessels, two bodies home runs, elongated pointed arches and a tower roof with a four-pronged. The building has two covers, one the oldest, Gothic-Mudejar, and other Baroque end of the seventeenth century.

On the outskirts of the village is the Carmelite convent of La Virgen de las Nieves of the sixteenth century and rebuilt in the XVIII. Ever since the Carmelites leave 160 years ago is in ruins.

Especially El Burgo offers a set of natural views are worthy of admiration and you can walk through routes such as walkers:

The Fuensanta and Los Sauces.

Begins the road two miles from the town in the direction of Yunkera. Filled with pine trees along the bed of the stream and lush green riverbank. Later we see a tree nursery and recreational area of the old mill Fuensanta. Continuing the way we arrived at the compound of the environmental Rejertilla, and later, the separation of the road is marked with a stone cross Galician style. If we decide to go to the right will give another route walker passing through the Port of Women, if we take the detour to the left climb up another crossroads in which we chose three distinct areas: the left one will return to the Rejertilla , The right to abandoned mines through the pinsapar of Mount Al Hoceima and the center of the camping area of Willow and Convent of the Snows. After the road becomes a path that will lead us to the highest peaks of the Sierra de las Nieves.

El Burgo, Turon River.

This route that begins in one lane on the left side of the river surrounded by poplars and olive groves were later converted into a dense gallery forest. After about two kilometers traveled, we found the barrier of the dam, bathing, and later a succession of dams of varying sizes, El Largo, The Requena, and the Birth Hierbabuena. Continuing the route we view with the wonderful Valley Lifa, the Round Rock of the Rock and dedicated to lovers. Now we can choose to connect with the previous route through the Port of Women or to return to the top but on the right side of the river.

Baja high-viper snake.

This route starts at about 13 kilometers from the right side of the road Serrato. It will climb up to the high snake, but before arriving we will see a lane that leads to the pond water as the source of Upper Snake. Move up to the rest of the Ventilla Cortijo and the Mirador del Guarda.

Artesania

No crafts declared as such in El Burgo, but if it is necessary to highlight the work being undertaken in using wicker basketry and cane, in addition to forging rondeña, the forge and embroidery.

Gastronomía

Related to the traditional peasant cooking, in El Burgo can taste the famous pot, made with chickpeas and pork derivatives; soups seven branches, consisting of bread boiled in salt water, which was missing a rehash of garlic, peppers , Tomatoes and asparagus wheat. This dish becomes the sopeado if we add egg. They are also very traditional Spanish oister, the pipe beans, the onion and gazpacho roscos fools.
